Epirus
Superb mountain region covering and area of 9,203 km2 and its capital town is Ioannina. Protected in the east by the mighty Pindus range and the serried peaks of Panaetolikon, Epirus is a region with vast oragne groves surrounding the deep inlet of the Ambracian Gulf.
Some of its most famous towns are Ioannina, Arta, Parga and Igoumenitsa.
Ioannina
Capital of the prefecture, the administrative capital Epirus. Busy and friendly town divided between pasture and the cultivation of cereals and tobacco.
Igoumenitsa
Igoumenitsa, the capital of Thesprotia and one of Greece's most important ports, lies 92 kilometers from Yanina. It is a modern town, one of the country's gateways to Western Europe, and a major hub for Adriatic sea traffic. The marvellous beaches of Drepano and Makrigiali with their hospitable resorts, plentiful sun and sea attract thousands of tourists all year round.
